Many of the new moms who come to the studio talk about various apps they use to help keep their lives organized. They find themselves in the business of tracking – feeding schedules, dirty diapers, hours of sleep (or not for mom and dad!), growth, immunizations, and the list goes on! It is all worth it though when you look at your precious baby. Liam was recently in the studio for his newborn session and he screams of sweetness!
There are lots of helpful apps available for new moms. I have selected a few to share with you.
- Nursing and BMs – There is truth to the statement that newborns basically eat, sleep, and poop! There are some cool apps that help you keep track of these activities. The iBaby Feed Timer app records when baby was nursed, the breast(s) used, and the duration of the feeding. (iPhone - $3.99) The Milk Maid app is handy for moms who are pumping. The app keeps an inventory of the amount of milk stored in the refrigerator and freezer (in ounces or milliliters) and when each bag or bottle was pumped, so you can keep on top of expiration dates. (iPhone - $2.99) The Baby Trackers: Diapers app logs frequency and consistency of bowel movements. This information can be uploaded to a spreadsheet for sharing with your pediatrician at baby’s next checkup. (iPhone - $0.99)
- Naptime – Helping your newborn fall asleep is the objective of these two apps. The Baby Song 2 app automatically plays soothing lullabies as soon as it detects ambient sounds and slowly fades out until baby falls sound asleep. (iPhone – free) The White Noise app’s selections include sounds of the womb, classical music, and peaceful sounds of nature. (iPhone - free)
- Growth – Babies seem to grow overnight! Chart your baby’s growth with the Growth app, which uses the official WHO template used by pediatricians for growth comparisons to the norm. The app includes preterm charts and corrected ages. (iPhone - free)
- Medical Advice – Have all your health questions about baby answered with the WebMD Baby app. This app provides doctor-approved health information and newborn care tips. As an added bonus, you receive content geared towards your baby’s specific age and developmental stage. (iPhone - free)
- Taking care of mom – Some new moms struggle to return to their pre-baby figure. The Lose It! app allows you to set a weight loss goal and establish a daily calorie budget. The app keeps track of your daily calorie intake and records how much you burn through exercise. (iPhone – free) A great companion app is FitMama Pro, which provides 5 and 10 minute quick and easy home workouts. The exercises focus on tightening muscles, toning the body, and shaping the belly and waistline. (iPhone - $3.99)
Hope you find an app that works for you and your baby!
