I am sure you have seen moms who take everything in stride and those who always appear frazzled. I know I have! In observing and talking to “studio moms,” I have gained a bit of insight into being a happy mom. My dear friend Stacey is an easy going mama, who makes the balance of motherhood and career look so easy.
Here are a few habits of happy moms.
- Focus on the big picture – Happy moms embrace the mantra, “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Seeing your toddler finger painting with the applesauce s/he spilled on the table may not seem like something small. Since you will have to clean up the mess anyway, why not savor the moment? Take a step back and capture your child’s fun and excitement, knowing that too soon these precious moments will only be a memory. Taking things in stride may make you happier.
- Find some alone time – Happy moms take time for themselves. Life as a mom is super busy and you need time to yourself to reenergize. Finding a few minutes a day to meditate, take a walk, read a book, enjoy a cup of coffee, take a bubble bath, or do whatever you find relaxing will make you happier.
- Hang with your girlfriends – Happy moms have close mom friends. Having friends who are in the trenches of motherhood with you is important. They give you support when needed, share in your joys and sorrows, and listen when you need to vent. They “get” you!
- Forgive and forget – Happy moms know and accept that they are not perfect. We all want to be the ideal parent, doing everything “right.” This mindset is a recipe for failure because everyone has “bad days.” You need to let those days go because the time you spend focusing on not being perfect is time you could be spending with your child.
What makes you a happy mom? Please, share your thoughts!
