Welcome back to Talking Tails!
Can you believe these temperatures? It is definitely time to stay inside and out of the heat. We have even shortened our potty time – we get right down to business! One of our favorite ways to cool down is with doggie ice cream. Mochi, Sushi, and Anastasia were recently in the studio and enjoyed ice cream during their session. They are on our page!
We recommend having your mom or dad whip up some doggie ice cream. This is better than human ice cream since many dogs are lactose intolerant. Gas and diarrhea are embarrassing! Here are our favorite doggie ice cream recipes and tips.
- Strawberry Coconut Butter – Mix 16 ounces of plain yogurt, one-fourth cup of coconut butter, and one-half cup of fresh strawberries in a blender until smooth. Pour mixture into freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays. Cover and freeze for several hours before serving. Yummy!!
- Carob Chip – Mix 12 ounces of plain yogurt, one-third cup of carob chips, and one tablespoon of honey in a bowl until well blended. Pour mixture into freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays. Cover and freeze for several hours before serving. This one is to die for!!
- Banana Blueberry – Mix 12 ounces of plain yogurt, two cups of blueberries, and two bananas in a blender until smooth. Pour mixture into freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays. Cover and freeze for several hours before serving. Heavenly good!!
- Peanut Butter Pumpkin – Mix 8 ounces of plain yogurt, 29 ounces (1 can) of pure pumpkin puree, and one-half cup of peanut butter in a blender until smooth. Pour mixture into freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays. Cover and freeze for several hours before serving. Now we’re talking!!
- Toppings – No sprinkles or hot fudge for us! Doggie safe ice cream toppings include a drizzle of honey, bits of crispy bacon, shredded cheese, or a spoonful of applesauce.
- Pupsicle – For a change of pace, pour the ice cream mixture into small paper cups and place a rawhide chew in the center of each cup to act like a popsicle stick. Freeze for several hours and voilà!
Stay cool and bon appétit!
