Here comes Halloween and another stressor for parents. Is trick-or-treating safe? Is it not safe? The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised against traditional trick-or-treating, suggesting that parents replace it with lower-risk activities.
There are a number of at-home activities that are super fun and “scream” Halloween! Be sure to wear your costume while engaging in these fun goings-on!
- Scavenger Hunt – You can make this as simple or fancy as you like! Depending on your child’s age, you can hide Halloween items throughout the house and provide a picture or word list for your child to find. Thinking witch hat, fake spider, black cat…you get the idea!
- Arts and Crafts – Set-up a variety of stations that allow your child to create various crafts. Consider an area complete with construction paper and glitter to make the perfect witch hat, another with play doh and molds to make spiders, and maybe a third to decorate Halloween cupcakes.
- Zoom Party – Coordinate a party for your child’s friends. You can include games, scary (or not) stories, and even a costume contest. Share a Halloween-themed beverage or snack recipe with moms prior to the party, so everyone has a common snack/drink.
- Netflix Party – Share a Halloween movie with family and/or friends. I have not tried it yet, but Netflix has a free extension that allows everyone to watch the movie at the same time while being in different locations. You can even pause the movie for everyone to accommodate snack or potty breaks!
- Halloween Piñata – Fun and candy! What is better?
How will you celebrate Halloween? Please, share.
