Talking Tails - Pet Memorial

Welcome back to Talking Tails!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this issue of Talking Tails. I had to say good-bye to my precious cousin, Jade, as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was such a sweet girl and we had lots of fun together. As much as I hate to admit it, she knew how to put me in my place!

I know that many of you (my dog buddies and their humans) have also lost furry friends. There is no word to describe the sadness we experience in losing a member of the family. To keep our dog forever close in our hearts, there are several ways that families choose to memorialize their memory.

A memorial stone can be placed near their favorite tree, in the garden, or by their preferred outside play area. I know some families who even use a memorial stone as an interior remembrance. I am sure you have tons of pictures of your dog, so creating a commemorative book or slideshow keeps her/his memory alive. If this is not for you, then framing a single photo of your dog keeps her/him evident in your home.

Donating to a pet charity in your dog’s name not only keeps your dog’s memory alive but helps other dogs in need. Lastly, my Mom created a mini-shrine to our dog, Buster. Readers may remember that Buster was my brother and left us in November 2020. She has a small shelf with his picture, collar, and little mementos that remind us of Buster.

I share these suggestions as a way to ease your pain. Sending lots of love to those who are experiencing this now along with me.

Talk to you soon!
Joey
