Talking Tails - Puppy Manners

Welcome back to Talking Tails!

Here comes Christmas! I just love this time of year, don’t you? There is such hustle and bustle, and I get to visit with more family members and furry friends.
I am channeling my inner Buster, who was affectionately referred to as Mr. Safety! For new readers, Buster was my big brother, who crossed the rainbow bridge two years ago. Amidst all the holiday fun, he would want us to remember to be conscious of our health and safety.

If you are not a social guy or gal, simply remove yourself from family and friend gatherings. Go ahead and own it! This keeps you from showing your ugly side! If you are out and about during holiday gatherings, don’t snack. I know it is very tempting, but most human food is not good for us. Additionally, beware of all those cups that humans put on the floor, as they are not there for us . Some contain alcoholic beverages, which can really wreak havoc on our tummies.

The holidays are also the time to put your best paw forward. Brush up on your greeting skills – no jumping or licking – you know the drill! Also, probably best to “leave it” on command, as it probably isn’t yours! It is easiest to be the “best you” when you are not stressed. Hopefully, your humans realize this and will keep your routine as normal as possible – eating, exercising, and sleeping. Since many of us are creatures of habit, finding our bed, food, and water bowl in their normal location is quite calming.

Hope you have a great holiday and Happy New Year! See you in 2022!

Talk to you soon!
Joey
