Talking Tails

Welcome to the debut post of “Talking Tails.” Let me introduce myself and my sidekick! I am Buster and I write with my buddy, Joey. I have been the “shop dog” for seven years, and am busy mentoring Joey to be my studio partner. We have so much fun meeting all the dogs that come to the studio with their humans! We love seeing our old studio friends and making new ones. Lots of sniffing goes on!!

We have some fun “doggie” facts to share with you. Hope you enjoy them!

  • You love us. 62% of households own a dog. What is not to love! About half of us even get to share your beds. Hopefully, we don’t steal the blankets! We have the same brain waves as you while sleeping, so we can dream. If you see us twitching or moving our paws while we are sleeping, you have caught us dreaming….probably about treats!

  • We have super sharp senses. Our noses are 10,000-100,000 times more sensitive than yours. We also hear high frequency sounds much better than you, in fact, we hear at 6,000 Hertz higher than you. So, when we bark at something and you don’t understand, it is probably because we are reacting to a sound that you just aren’t hearing. This helps us alert you to possible danger.

  • Color is great! We don’t see in black and white as many humans believe. We can easily distinguish blue, green, yellow, and shades of gray. Keep that in mind when you buy us toys and “clothes.” We can show off our style better, if other dogs can “see” it! We can see easily at night because we have a special membrane in our eyes. So, if we take a stroll through the house in the middle of the night, don’t worry, we won’t bump into anything.

  • We know we are adorable when we curl up in a ball to sleep, but let me let you in on a secret. That cute pose is instinctive, allowing us to keep warm and protect our vital organs from predators. Although we inherited this behavior, we know that you find it to be “darling!”

Talk to you again soon!

Buster and Joey
