Welcome back to Talking Tails!
Joey and I both celebrated our birthdays in January and our cousin, Jade, is celebrating her birthday in February. So we have parties and treats on our minds! There are many great ways and places to celebrate your dog’s birthday.
If birthday treats are your dog’s way of celebrating, we have a few recommendations.
- Dog Haus Bakery (http://www.doghausbakery.com/) is Charlotte’s first mobile dog bakery. The 100% all-natural cookies and cakes are made in a food truck. How cool is that?? Cakes come in a variety of sizes and icing choices, and you can even add sprinkles. Yummy! Cookie flavors include apple, honey, pumpkin, and our personal favorite, peanut butter. DHB treats are sold at various pet locations around town (including The Dog Salon discussed below) or you can place your personalized doggie treat order online. Watch for their truck at various pet events this spring and summer.
- Canine Café (http://www.caninecafe.net/) is another great bakery option for dog treats and birthday cakes. Only 100% natural ingredients (e.g., multiple grains, peanut butter, fruits, vegetables, herbs) are used in their on-site bakery. Most recipes are wheat and corn free, with many vegan varieties. Their biscuits, treats, bones, and chews are great, but for a birthday, you have to step it up! We highly recommend (because we have had most of these!) the Petit Fours, Cannolis, Tarts, Mutt Muffins, and the Pawty Cakes. The Peanut Butter Banana cake is to die for, but the apple oatmeal, carrot, and carob chip cakes are also amazing!
If grooming and pampering are on your dog’s birthday agenda, we have a spot for you.
- The Dog Salon (http://www.thedogsalon.com/) offers a variety of interesting grooming options. A full or mini-groom, not only includes ears, anal glands, and nails, but a spa bath with a soothing massage. There is nothing better than a massage…can I just stay all day! If you really want to go all out on the pampering, the Dog Salon offers hot oil treatments, earrings, temporary tattoos, and creative coloring for fur and nails. I would not mind the massage and hot oil treatment, but Joey would go for the creative color and tattoos….he is a bit of a rebel! They, also, have a self-serve dog wash, providing water, shampoo, towels, blow dryers, brushes, and cologne. No more wrestling your dog in a tiny sink or bending over a bathtub. For those dogs who hate to leave home, The Dog Salon now offers mobile grooming, so you have to go no further than your driveway!
If it’s party-time, we have a suggestion.
- Zoom Room (http://www.zoomroomonline.com/events/dog-birthday-party.html) provides a great place for a doggie birthday party. Dogs spend two hours with their friends in an indoor, climate-controlled facility. You pick your favorite theme – Buster’s would be ties and tiaras and Joey’s would be pound puppies – and then it just happens! From running the agility course to chasing lights and patterns in the Doggy Disco, the fun is nonstop. Did we mention the gift bags, doggy donuts, frozen yoghurt, and other treats?? The Zoom Room staff sets-up and cleans-up. How much better can it get??
However you celebrate your dog’s birthday, hope it is great! Talk to you soon.
